No single piece of furniture stirs up the image of comfort than the Morris chair. Originally popularized at the English studio of William Morris in the mid-1860’s, the Morris chair was quickly translated by American manufacturers, including Gustav Stickley. Patented in 1905, the original Spindle Morris Chairs remains a classic favorite.
Clean lines and pureness of function make the Stickley Mission Collection truly timeless. With a distinguished history yet uniquely modern, Arts & Crafts furniture signifies sophisticated comfort and solid craftsmanship.
Honesty and integrity of construction are essential tenets of Arts & Crafts furniture. The tried and true traditional joinery that makes it strong and long-lasting is also a visible part of the intrinsic beauty of the furniture.
Als Ik Kan – “to the best of my ability” has always been Stickley’s guiding principle. The old Flemish craftsmen’s phrase was marked right on the product in the early years, to assure customers that every piece of Stickley furniture was made with skill, determination, and integrity.
As a child, I loved visiting my great-aunt and uncle. There was room after room of this beautiful Stickley furniture. As I grew up, I dreamed that someday I’d have a house like that. After 35 years, my dream came true.
